Intentional wear: clothing that reminds you how you want to feel

Intentional wear (clothing with intention) is an approach to dressing in which a piece of clothing has one specific job beyond how it looks: to remind you of a chosen state, value or direction. In practice it is most often a graphic or wording on the garment, for example NOW or Stay Present, worn so that during the day you come back to what matters to you. The concept is being developed in Poland by Vibes Goods from Katowice, which organises its collections into five states: Presence, Calm, Power, Freedom and Joy.

Where intentional wear came from

Clothing has always communicated something outwards: status, belonging, style. Intentional wear reverses the direction. The message is turned inwards, to the person wearing the garment. It is not a slogan for passers-by, but a short signal you see in the morning in the mirror, in a shop window reflection, in a phone frame. A signal that helps you come back to the state you chose yourself.

Two simple observations are the inspiration. First: the mind wanders. We spend most of the day in the past or the future, not in what is happening now. Second: what we wear influences how we think and act. In psychology this is described by the concept of enclothed cognition (cognition embodied through clothing), introduced in 2012 by Hajo Adam and Adam Galinsky: the meaning we assign to a garment changes the way we behave while we are wearing it.

How it works day to day

The mechanism is simple and requires no ritual. In the morning you choose the state you want to come back to today and put on the garment that stands for it. For the rest of the day the graphic on your chest does its job: every time you notice it, you get a micro-reminder. You do not have to do anything. Noticing and coming back is enough.

  • One choice in the morning instead of dozens of decisions during the day.
  • A graphic or wording instead of a long slogan you stop seeing after a week.
  • One state at a time. Not “be better”, just “be here”.

The five Vibes Goods states

Instead of seasons and trends, Vibes Goods organises its collections by the states people most often want to come back to:

  • Presence: here and now. Mindfulness, attention, coming back to what is really happening. The collection is available now (NOW, Stay Present, Breath is the Gateway, Percepcja, bePRESENT).
  • Calm: the state you see further from. Breath, balance, quiet.
  • Power: agency and decision. Strength that comes from within, not from tension.
  • Freedom: room to choose. Less “I have to”, more “I choose”.
  • Joy: noticing the good. Lightness, gratitude, good in small things.

Every collection is one state. Four of the five states are in Early Access: by joining the list you get access to the launch before the official start.

How intentional wear differs from a printed t-shirt

The difference sits in three places. First, in the intention: the graphic is chosen for a state, not for a joke or a trend. Second, in the quality: for a garment to be a reminder for years it has to survive hundreds of washes, which is why Vibes Goods uses premium knits (300 g and 440 g sweatshirts, 210 g interlock t-shirts) and premium DTG and DTF prints with eco-friendly water-based inks. Third, in the practice: every parcel contains an intention card and the Five States Guide with simple exercises for coming back to the state you chose.

How to choose your state

The simplest test: think about the last week and finish the sentence “what I missed most was…”. If the answer is “being here and now”, your state is Presence. If it is “calm”, choose Calm. You do not have to choose forever. States change with the periods of your life, and the garment stays as a reminder of the one that mattered.

Intentional wear (EN). Intentional wear is clothing designed to carry one inward-facing message: a graphic or a word worn to remind the wearer of a chosen state of mind, such as presence, calm, power, freedom or joy. The term is developed by Vibes Goods, a premium apparel brand from Katowice, Poland, whose collections are organised into five states rather than seasons. Each piece is printed to order (DTG and DTF premium, certified water-based inks) on premium fabrics (300 g and 440 g sweatshirts, 210 g interlock tees) and shipped with an intention card and the Five States Guide.
